Welcome to Anicinabe Park
Anicinabe Park has long been a cherished gathering place for the Anishinaabe peoples—a space where families and friends have come together for generations to celebrate, share meals, hold ceremonies, and enjoy the land. This tradition of gathering, reflection, and connection is what makes Anicinabe Park so special.
Now stewarded by Dewar Dynamics and their Team, led by Gary Dewar—a proud Red River Métis—we are honoured to help carry this legacy forward. Our vision is to keep Anicinabe Park a natural, peaceful place where the rhythms of the land are respected and protected. We’re committed to maintaining the park as a welcoming space for everyone to relax, connect with nature, and make new memories with family and friends.
We are dedicated to protecting the park’s environment, supporting cultural learning, and celebrating Indigenous heritage. We invite everyone to join us in keeping Anicinabe Park a vibrant, inclusive space where nature, culture, and community come together. Whether it’s a day at the beach, a picnic by the water, or an evening around the fire, the park is the perfect setting for meaningful moments. Together, we can care for this special place and ensure it remains welcoming for generations to come.
With care and commitment,
Gary, Heather, David & Karla
Dewar Dynamics Team: Enhancing Your Experience
This summer marks an exciting transformation as Dewar Dynamics launches a new era as the campground operators, blending outdoor passion with community-driven innovation. Plans for this summer include camp site and firepit upgrades. Viewing benches throughout the park. An enhanced website with a modern booking system for both your campsite and your boat berth at the Mikinaak Marina. (inspired by the snapping turtle that lives there). All team members have been working in the film industry but are taking a hiatus this summer to focus on bringing their creative energy and logistical expertise to Anicinabe Park, where they'll help crafting unforgettable experiences for visitors.
Meet the Dewar Dynamics Team: Your Hosts at Anicinabe Park
Gary Dewar, President & Dockstar
Gary brings together a deep respect for cultural heritage, a lifelong passion for fishing, and extensive operational expertise. With over 40 years at Manitoba Hydro, Gary developed strong technical and mechanical skills alongside comprehensive safety training. Together with his wife Heather, he has owned and operated the Stony Mountain Ski Area for more than 30 years, continually upgrading and improving the facility. Gary has also spent over two decades boating on Lake of the Woods, exploring its vast waters and hidden gems. And while he’s always happy to share a story, he’s keeping his favourite fishing spot a secret!
Heather’s all about making your stay feel easy, welcoming, and a little bit like home. With a background in customer service, tourism, and event planning, she knows what makes a getaway special — and it’s usually the simple things done really well. She loves helping people connect with the places they visit — whether that’s pointing you toward a favourite local café, a quiet walking trail, or a must-see spot you won’t find on Google. More than anything, Heather just wants you to have a great time, soak up the local vibes, and leave with new favourite memories.
The Adventure Guru Behind Anicinabe Park
Retired Phys. Ed. teacher? More like the ultimate outdoor legend. Known as the “grandfather of triathlon,” David’s been shaping the sport for decades—pioneering associations, organizing international events, and basically inventing “endurance goals” before they were cool. Between hiking the 900km Bruce Trail (casual, right?) and canoeing the historic voyageur route to Hudson Bay, he’s basically got “adventure” as his middle name. David is also a DIY enthusiast, and repairing and fixing are in his DNA. Always wearing a tool belt and a smile, David is always checking for opportunities to improve, repair, or create something new around the campground. His proactive approach ensures that no problem goes unfixed, embodying the spirit of "if it’s worth doing, it’s worth doing right"
Karla Markham- Camp Services & Special Events Co-ordinator

A certified yoga therapist, teaacher and rehabilitation assistant, she’s trained in occupational, physical, and recreational therapy—and uses that expertise to create engaging activities that connect people with nature and each other. Karlais designing a series of Yoga in the Park sessions and will ensure the facilities are well maintained , all while greeting every guest with the biggest smile.
We’re excited to welcome you and would love to hear any feedback on how we can make your stay at Anicinabe Park and Campground even better!
